Special Needs Education in Bangkok and Pattaya

A child has special educational needs (SEN) if he or she has learning difficulties or disabilities that make it harder for him or her to learn than most other children of about the same age.

Many children will have special educational needs of some kind during their education. Schools and other organisations can help most children overcome the barriers their difficulties present quickly and easily. A few children will need extra help for some or all of their time in school.

Like our sister school in Pattaya, The Village Bangkok is a very special place, driven by the strong belief that children with special needs should be given the best possible support, from the highest standards of teaching, to the most conducive environment in which to learn.

The Village is an accredited ASDAN programme provider. We currently run programmes in PSHE, social skills, work right and numeracy and literacy. The students who undertake these courses can progress and gain qualifications from Entry 1 – Level 2.

Here at The Village we have literacy specialists trained in teaching struggling or reluctant readers. The specialist teachers use the UK dyslexia programme DALP. This programme was developed and refined by the specialist teachers in Dyslexia Action, with advice from their speech therapist and psychologist colleagues. Decisions on its structure and its scope were based on the experience of using the original Hickey programme with a wide range of children and adults for over 20 years. Its principles are that teaching should be multisensory, structured, cumulative, sequential and phonic. Teaching should be thorough with strategies for memory and over-learning built into it.

The Village provides after school support for children who need 1-2-1 tuition to consolidate their learning in mainstream schools. These sessions are devised after initial consultation with parents and observation of the student. The teacher will then devise a learning plan to support the child’s learning through specialist support.

Alongside the National Curriculum for England each student has an individual education plan (IEP). The IEP is tailored to the individual student’s needs as identified by the IEP evaluation process, this helps teachers understand the student’s difficulties and how they affect the learning process.

The Village understands the value of Extra-Curricular Activities (ECA), they provide a platform for the students to develop life experience and participate in activities that are catered to their unique requirements. We offer a variety of ECA's, some of which are listed below.
